My Weaknesses
Openings
I tend to struggle against some openings. Here are the opening variations in which I struggle quite a bit:
- Tromposky Opening: I have never actually studied the opening lines.
- Nimzo-Indian: I do poorly because I am a poor positional player and I have not perused the variations and themes in depth.
- Sicilian Accelerated Dragon: A CM really crushed me in this opening in over 5 games. Apparently, I am not prepared!
- Bogo-Indian: I play but I have no idea what the main ideas and strategic themes are.
- English Opening: It's a work in progress.
- 1. Nc3: This move just confuses me.
- 1. Nf3: Very flexible with many transpositions.
- Maroczy Bind: I don't know how to play against it.
- London System: My preparation lacks depth.
Planning and Strategy
I struggle against flexible and positional openings like 1.c4, 1.Nf3, 1. Nc3 and systems based opening like the london and colle. As a result my planning skills and general positional play naturally poor.
I do very poorly when solving postional puzzles. I have no systmatic approach at all! Perhaps I should train Jeremy Silman's thinking technique?
Calculation
Alexander Kotov once said that no grandmaster calculates variations poorly. I am terrible at calucalation and visualization. I can certainly compute obvious short term tactics. I am simply disorganized when analyzing variations
